Description Yasmin Oral Contraceptive Pill Used as a combined oral contraceptive (CHC) for women Helps in family planning and preventing unintended pregnancies A combination of two hormones: ethinyl estradiol (estrogen) and drospirenone (progestin) 21-day supply of yellow, round, film-coated tablets Contains 3.0 mg of drospirenone and 0.030 mg of ethinyl estradiol Description Yasmin is a combined birth control pill containing two active ingredients: drospirenone and ethinylestradiol. These hormones work together to prevent pregnancy through multiple mechanisms. Yasmin primarily suppresses ovulation, meaning it prevents the ovaries from releasing an egg. It also thickens the cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to enter the uterus. Additionally, the estrogen component, ethinylestradiol, reduces the buildup of the endometrial lining, making it less likely for a fertilized egg to implant. As a result, Yasmin provides effective contraception, while also making periods lighter, more regular, and potentially reducing the severity of menstrual symptoms. Other benefits may include improvements in skin appearance, particularly with acne or spots, and a reduction in the risk of ovarian cysts. Benefits Over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy Prevents egg release and fertilization Reduces the likelihood of implantation Regularizes periods, reduces blood loss, and alleviates painful periods Lowers the risk of ovarian cysts Improves skin appearance (reducing acne and spots) Makes menstrual cycles more predictable Reduces menstrual cramps and makes periods lighter, shorter, and less painful Alleviates premenstrual symptoms How to Use Take one Yasmin pill every day at the same time, no more than 24 hours apart. Start on the first day of your menstrual cycle or as directed by your doctor, for 21 consecutive days. After 21 days, take seven pill-free days, during which a withdrawal bleed (similar to a period) will occur. If you do not take a pill as directed, you may be at risk of pregnancy. Your doctor may advise that you begin the next pack even if your withdrawal bleed has not fully finished. Warnings & Cautions Not recommended for women over 35 who smoke. Use caution if you have a history of blood clots, heart attack, stroke, clotting disorders, heart valve problems, liver/kidney/adrenal diseases, breast cancer, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
