Description Navela Emergency Contraceptive Navela is an emergency contraceptive that can be taken within 72 hours (3 days) following unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. It contains levonorgestrel, a synthetic hormone-like substance that can prevent pregnancy in approximately 85% of cases when taken within this time frame. However, it is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected sexual intercourse, ideally within 12 hours, rather than waiting until the third day. Navela works by preventing ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary), inhibiting sperm from fertilizing an egg, or preventing a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus. Please note that Navela is not effective if you are already pregnant. It is intended for emergency contraception only and should not be used as a regular contraceptive method, as it is less effective than other forms of contraception.
