The original “Melancholic Soul” was published in 1976, but it wasn’t distributed since the publisher didn’t have the money and a there was a demand filed by a cinema company. Rescued from the oblivion of its times, the book was published again in 2009. “Melancholic Soul” is a tribute to Ken Takakura, known as one of the most popular actors in post-war Japan. The pictures in this book come from some of the masters of Japanese photography like Eikoh Hosoe, Daido Moriyama, Yoshihiro Tatsuki or Kenji Ishiguro, and the design was made by Tadanori Yokoo.
